Hike to Lover's Leap -- Learn the legend of the star-crossed lovers
For centuries humans have created myths and legends about the salamander, even giving them a name that means “lives in fire.” With more than 50 different species, Virginia is a wonderful place to investigate the secretive and fascinating world of salamanders. Meet at the Stock Creek Recreational Area. Please wear closed-toe shoes and expect to get wet.
Hear the tale of the star-crossed lovers that the trail is named after and view the tunnel from above. Hike along the mostly paved trail to the overlook and learn about the legend behind the name. The trail does have steps and is just under a one-mile round trip. Please wear sturdy shoes and dress for the weather.
