Scott County is home to two major rivers, each of which flows through nearly untouched countryside full of stunning bluffs, deep swimming pools, and rolling farmland.
The Clinch River is one of the most diverse rivers in the nation, full of rare plants and animals, some of which can be found nowhere else on earth. Small rapids on the northeastern end of the river give way to flat waters which even a novice can navigate, and both sections of the river are well endowed with many species of game fish.
The North Fork of the Holston River is less well known, but offers a similar seclusion with even fewer paddlers. The North Fork is also a trophy smallmouth bass fishery, with bass over 20 inches long regularly pulled from its waters.

Whether you're looking for trophy smallmouth bass, tasty trout, or a leisurely lakeside fishing trip, Scott County has the spot for you.
Scott County could have a marketing tool for its outdoor activities if the board of supervisors passes a resolution at its upcoming meeting declaring portions of the Clinch and Holston rivers "blueways."
Like mussels, salamanders reach a peak of diversity in Scott County. 24 species can be found in our woods, creeks, and rivers and their brilliant colors rival those of our birds and wildflowers.
Scott County's main claim to biological fame is our mussels. Dozens of species can be found in the sandy bottoms of our rivers and 35 of them are rare.
This remote river offers the choice between a multiple day journey and a short afternoon jaunt. Either way, you'll float on gentle water with trophy smallmouth bass nipping at your line.
The Clinch River offers opportunities for hour long through full day paddling trips along what The Nature Conservancy calls the number one river worth protecting in the United States.
Gray's Island is one the largest islands on the Clinch River, within the area of Scott County.
