Allen Hicks Jams a@ Heartwood Thursday
On Thursday, March 16 at 6:00 pm two of the best jam sessions along The Crooked Road will collide at Heartwood for a full evening of bluegrass and old time music making. The popular Allen Hicks Jam from Nickelsville in Scott County and the Smyth County Jam from Chilhowie will bring dozens of great musicians to Heartwood to give listeners a sample of what they can hear every week at these premiere jam sessions. In honor of the Irish patron Saint Patrick, Celtic music group Stravaigin will open the SUPER JAM with a bagpipe welcome.
“We thought it would be a blast to gather the great musicians who attend these two jams together for a special evening to share the stage at Heartwood. Having a bagpipe welcome at the beginning is icing on the cake” said Jack Hinshelwood, Crooked Road executive director. “Whether you attend the Allen Hicks Jam on Friday nights or the Smyth County Jam on Monday nights, you’re likely to hear some of the best musicians of The Crooked Road region. We love being able to provide a place for these two Jams to come together and share their music.”
“The Allen Hicks and Smyth County jams usually bring so many great pickers that the whole building becomes one big jam session, with pickers in multiple rooms. The whole building rocks when they are here.”
In addition to the music, Heartwood chef Charles Parker will be serving up generous portions of his signature corned beef brisket with a potato and cabbage hash.
Heartwood: Southwest Virginia’s Artisan Gateway is located off I-81 at Exit 14 in Abingdon, VA, and features food, music, and crafts of Southwest Virginia. Admission to the event is free and donations will be accepted to support the Smyth County Jam and the Allen Hicks Jam.
